Radio Havana Cuba

Dear Sir/Madam

Greetings from Australia.

Nearly two years ago I sent two receptions reports but there was no reply. Following that, I sent the same reports again in November last year but still no reply. Therefore, here are copies for a third time in the hope that you can verify they were correct. It would be great to obtain your QSLs.

Report 1

I was very pleased to hear Radio Havana Cuba on 4 August 2015, on 11840 kHz, between 2305 and 2320 UTC. Reception was fair at 2305 UTC with SINPO = 35543. However, at 2318 UTC the transmitter unexpectedly went off the air. When it came back two minutes later, the signal strength had reduced to poor, SINPO = 25542.  I listened on an Icom R75 receiver with a 70 metre longwire aerial.

Programs were in Spanish:

2305 UTC        Feature program hosted by a male presenter

2308                As part of this feature, a sort of gospel choir sang unaccompanied

2311                The end of this program mentioned the Estados Unidos so maybe that’s where the

choir came from. There were a couple of station identifications for Radio Habana

Cuba then a new program with several mentions of Cuba

2314                Station musical theme and identification as ‘Esta es Radio Habana Cuba…….desde

                        Cuba, territorio libre de America’

2315                Possible station promo including a Cuban song by a male singer

2316                Cuban song by a male and a female singer

2318                Transmitter went off air suddenly

2320                Back on air with announcements then a Cuban song by a male singer.

Report 2

I was very pleased to hear Radio Havana Cuba on 7 August 2015, on 9535 kHz, between 0440 and 0459 UTC. Reception was good, with SINPO = 45544. At 0459 UTC Algerian Radio commenced its broadcast also on 9535 kHz but Radio Havana continued only for about another 20 seconds anyway. I listened on an Icom R75 receiver with a 70 metre longwire aerial.

Programs were in Spanish until just before the end of the broadcast:

0440 UTC        Spanish  -  half a dozen reports, three of them ending with identification as “Radio

                        Habana Cuba”

0456                Unexpectedly there was an English segment with some news items  -  malnutrition,

suicide blast in Saudi Arabia, escaped Mexican on the run, protesters march in Peru

                        about a mining project

0458:30           Public service announcement about global warming

0459                Brief sign off announcements in English (about equal strength with Algerian Radio)

                        and end of broadcast.

I would be most grateful if you could verify that these reports are correct with your QSL cards.

My wife and I hope to visit Cuba next year. We are looking forward to it very much.

Hope to hear from you soon. In the meantime, best wishes with your broadcasting.

Kind regards

David Foster
