Havana, November 25 (RHC-ACN)-- The Havana Provincial Administration Council (CAP by its Spanish acronym) has signed an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) for the acquisition of more than 60 solid waste collection trucks.

Reinaldo Garcia, president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, thanked the Japanese agency for its action, which also includes the supply of spare parts, and will improve community services to mark the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana, in 2019.

Takuma Momoi, JICS head of division, said they will be responsible for carrying out the Waste Management Improvement Project in Havana, commissioned by the government of Japan.

He said the new agreement with Cuba is in line with his nation's commitment to the Kyoto Protocol, as it aims to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, focusing on the final treatment and disposal of waste.

Momoi noted: At our headquarters in Tokyo, we have been in charge of the implementation of initiatives that take place in different parts of the world for almost 30 years, mainly financed by the Japanese taxpayer.
