Berlin, March 21 (RHC)-- Cuban Minister of Mining and Energy Alfredo López is heading the country's delegation participating in the debates of the 3rd Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, which started sessions Monday in Berlin, hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.

Addressing a panel on energy transition in Latin America, Minister López spoke about the Cuban experience, specifically the country's advances in the field and ongoing programs that prioritize renewable energy sources.

First held in 2015, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue is a pivotal platform, which brings together key international decision makers in foreign energy and energy policy, industry, science and civil society as well as foremost energy experts from all over the world to discuss the latest energy developments, innovative political instruments, new investment opportunities and future business propositions deriving from the ongoing transformation of the global energy sector.

At the two-day conference, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are to present their study “Perspectives for the Energy Transition: Investment Needs for a Low Carbon Energy System”. The study, carried out with support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, looks into which investments are necessary in order to achieve the Paris climate goals and how misguided investments in energy technologies that are harmful to the environment can be avoided.
