Havana, Mar 7, (RHC), — As Daylight Saving or Summer Time begins in Cuba on Sunday, local electricity authorities say that the energy generation can perfectly cope with the power demand for the period of time, marked by high temperature on the island.

The director of the Electricity Department at the Energy and Mining Ministry, Tatiana Amarán said that the National Energy System can guarantee the normal and stable performance of all services for the population and the production sector.

Amarán recalled that power demand increases during Summer time with a rise in the use of air conditioning equipment. However, the country also counts on the support by systems of power generators that can be hooked to the national system in order to help any exceptional lack of power.

The highest demand peak for the National Power System has been reported at over 3 thousand megawatts during the Summer period. This suggests the rational use of energy, the official explained.

The implementation of Daylight Saving Time is an international practice to save energy in some 80 nations of the world.
