Havana, September 30 (RHC)-- The Cuban people paid posthumous tribute to the dedicated revolutionary fighter Jorge Risquet Valdes-Saldaña. The Veterans Pantheon at the Colon Cemetery in Havana was the scene yesterday of a heartfelt tribute by families, friends, comrades and important government and Communist Party leaders.
During the funeral, the first honor guard was given by Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the Communist Party and Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers; members of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party; Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers and the head of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias; and Heroine of the Republic of Cuba, Brigadier Tete Puebla.
Other personalities and friends also guarded the ashes of this prominent internationalist and founder of the Communist Party of Cuba, next to which were placed wreaths on behalf of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro and Cuban President Raul Castro.
