Cuba celebrated the National Rebellion Day

by María Josefina Arce

July 26th is a date of great importance for Cubans. Seventy-one years ago, a group of young people led by Fidel Castro were the protagonists of a courageous act that went down in history and paved the way for the triumphant revolution of January 1959.

The attack on the Moncada Barracks, the country's second military fortress in Santiago de Cuba, contributed to the maturation of the political conscience of a large part of society at the time.

This action was supported by the attack on the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks in Bayamo, the Saturnino Lora Hospital and the Palace of Justice, which did not achieve the proposed objectives.

But, as the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution would say, on that day "the heroic march begun by Céspedes in 1868 and later continued by that exceptional man whose centennial is being commemorated this year, the intellectual author of the Moncada: José Martí".

The violent repression of the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista would not be long in coming. Most of the attackers were killed and the survivors were arrested, tried and sentenced to prison.

On the National Day of the Rebellion, the inhabitants of the Central Province of Santi Spiritus, on behalf of all Cubans, paid a well-deserved tribute to the participants of this historic event that shook the country.

During the National Day of the Rebellion, the inhabitants of the Central Province of Santi Spiritus, in the name of all Cubans, paid a well-deserved tribute to the participants of that historic event that shook the country, during the Central Act of the anniversary.

This is the third time that this area has hosted this important commemoration. Previously, it hosted the Central Act for July 26 in 1986 and in 2016.

The designation was confirmed by the work of the Province, which shows encouraging economic and social indicators, despite the obstacles imposed by the intensification of the U.S. blockade, which slows down the progress of the nation, and, as Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel said, in the midst of so many complexities, the people of Sancti Spiritus have shown that it is possible.

It is therefore a commitment to continue to unite and seek alternatives to continue building our own project for a country, guided by the example of those young people who, inferior in numbers and weapons, were at the forefront of the struggle for Cuba's true independence.
