The book Raúl Castro y Nuestra América by Abel González has been presented at Havana’s Book Fair dealing with the Cuban President’s Latin American thinking.

Author Abel González said that Raúl, as he is known by the Cuban people, has kept the same line of revolutionary thinking about the problems facing Latin America and the Caribbean for more than 50 years. The statement was made at La Cabaña Fortress’ Nicolás Guillén Hall during the lunch of the book Raúl Castro y Nuestra América, 86 discursos, intervenciones y declaraciones (Raúl Castro and Our America, 86 speeches and statements).

Arranged by decades, the compilation starts in 1959 with an interview with Raúl Castro, 28 at that time, stating that the Organization of American States –OAS- is an ineffective entity and calling for its disappearance. The last speech compiled in the book was delivered 58 years later at the 5th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States –CELAC- in the Dominican Republic, in which Raúl Castro ratified that it has never been more necessary for the continent to walk down the road of unity.

The collection dedicated to Raúl comes following the launching of Fidel Castro and the United States: 90 speeches, statements and reflexions, dedicated to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, also complied by Abel González. ‘We intend to make a contribution to the knowledge among young people of these two great leaders’ revolutionary thinking that doesn’t change with time,’ said Abel González.

Havana Historian, Eusebio Leal, to whom this year’s Havana Book Fair is dedicated, praised González’s work, which he described as profound in the field of the ideas of the Revolution. Leal also highlighted Raúl Castro’s character and recalled his statements at the 7th Summit of the Americas in Panama, where in the historian’s words, Castro told ‘the Emperor’ (referring to President Barack Obama) everything that had to be told with honor and without a coarse language.
