Havana's Fine Art Biennial at the Malecón

Havana, March 10 (RHC)-- The 13th Fine Art Biennial, the largest visual art event in Cuba, is scheduled to run in the Cuban capital April 12/May 12, 2019.

Art is set to invade Havana with more than 300 artists and creators from some 52 countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, France, Peru and Spain, according to event organizers. One of the biennial’s main principles has been to encourage the public’s and audience’s interaction with the artists, curators, experts and institutions. Over the past few editions, the gathering has ensured a process of continuity in some work lines that will remain in 2019 with projects linked to other art forms, such as music, literature and dance.

The biennial will have several venues in the Cuban capital and, as on other occasions, is set to exhibit in squares, plazas, parks and other open air areas. According to the gathering’s main curator, Nelson Herrera Isla, the biennial will also be held outside Havana –its usual venues since 1984- and for the first time will reach other provinces, such as Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and Camagüey.

Havana is set to be the venue of Havana’s 2nd Design Biennial May 20/26. Dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Cuban capital’s founding, the biennial’s slogan is ‘Design Beyond Form’. Since it began in 2016, it has provided multiple spaces of exchange and promotion of the importance of design for personal and social growth. Exhibits, samples, shows and a theoretical program at Havana’s Conference Center are part of the event’s agenda with sub venues in Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba.
