Havana, October 9 (RHC) - Acosta Danza, directed by Carlos Acosta, began a tour of Asia in October, which includes shows in Singapore and China. This is the first time the Cuban company performs on a Singapore stage. As part of the 2019 Dans Festival, the Cuban dancers will dance on October 10 and 11 at the Esplanade Theaters on the Bay, a performing arts center considered the most important in the Asian country, said Lester Vila, the dance group’s press director.

The program is made up of pieces, such as Alrededor no hay nada (There is nothing around) by Goyo Montero, which uses poems by Joaquín Sabina and Vinicius de Moraes; Fauno, a duet by Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, of whom Mermaid can also be enjoyed, a work performed by Carlos Acosta. The shows are completed with Paysage, soudain, la nuit, by choreographer Pontus Lidberg, which recreates Cuban ‘rumba’ steps, with a score by Leo Brouwer and Stefan Levin and an artistic installation by Elizabet Cerviño as a stage set.

Followin the four of Singapore, Acosta Danza will travel on to China to dance at the National Theater. Paysage, soudain, la nuit by Lidberg, also integrates the program, the information adds. The performances will be on Oct 15/16 with choreographic pieces, such as Imponderable by Goyo Montero, based on the lyrical work by Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez; the solo Impronta by María Rovira; Rooster by Christopher Bruce with a score of the band The Rolling Stones, and Twelve, a divertimento by Spain’s Jorge Crecis that mixes dance, sports and mathematics.

Since its stage debut, Acosta Danza has had the objective of performing dance shows in line with the most current trends developed in the world, not only in terms of movement but also in stage-related matters. The company provides a space for renewal, research and experiment for Cuban dancers and also opens the doors for choreographers, musicians, designers, fine and audiovisual artists from all over the world. The ensemble’s choreographic repertoire includes pieces by Carlos Acosta, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Justin Peck, Marianela Boán, Goyo Montero, Saburo Teshigawara, Pontus Lidberg, Christopher Bruce, Rafael Bonachela, María Rovira and Jorge Crecis, among others.
