Guitar Encounter in Cuba: Ten countries and multiple sounds

Havana, February 1 (RHC) -- The 5th ‘Identities’ Guitar Encounter will gather in the Cuban capital beginning today musicians from more than ten countries, including the United States and Colombia, nations that stand out for their variety of styles and sounds.

The trio concert, including the Accidental trio and the Various Notes trio, will show the multiple languages ​​in which guitars are played in Cuba and Latin America at the National Fine Arts Museum. The US’s the Accidental trio, made up of vocalist Joan Carroll, guitarist Matt Dume and accordion player Mark Rubenstien, will show the most intimate country music sound achieved by a combination of acoustic guitar, accordion and subtle voices. For its part, the young Various Notes trio from Colombia will play a repertoire of rhythms that characterize the South American nation with a long tradition in the region's guitar scene. Representing Cuba will be Emilio Martiní and Natural trio, founded in 2011, playing pieces related to traditional and contemporary jazz.

In this year’s edition, the ‘Identities’ Guitar Festival will pay tribute to the 50 years of artistic life of the duo of Efraín Amador and Doris Oropesa, precursors of the study on the island of ‘tres’ and ‘laud’ and a tribute to the 80th anniversary of maestro Leo Brower. The gathering, sponsored by the Cuban Writers and Artists Association –UNEAC- , will extend to other Cuban provinces, such as Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. The closing, scheduled for February 2 at the National Theater’s Covarrubias hall, will be in charge of the National Symphony. Exchanges of experiences and opinions about new trends and styles in the guitar world are part of the event’s agenda.
