The Latin Music Institute (ILM) has announced that the documentary film to be premiered on the 100th anniversary of the entity in 2021, will feature Cuban vedette, the late Rosita Fornés.

In statements to the press, ILM president Daniel Martín, who attended Tuesday’s funeral ceremony here in Havana for the renowned Cuban singer, dancer and actress, recalled that in 2018 the Institute named Rosita 'vedette per excellence', in what constituted the last prize that the Cuban diva received in Mexico, where she developed a successful professional career in film in the 1950s and 60s.

“We will see her shine again soon in the documentary film ‘Love for Music’, where she is featured along with other great artists of all time like Mexican Pedro Infante,” Martín said.

Cuban filmmaker and composer Edesio Alejandro is the director of the documentary film to mark the 100th anniversary of the Latin Music Institute in 2021. An active member of the Hollywood Film Academy and of the Grammy and Latin Grammy Academies, Edesio was named a cultural Ambassador of the Latin Music Institute in 2018.

Rosita Fornés died on June 10 in the United States. Fulfilling the artist’s last wish, her remains were repatriated and laid to rest this past Tuesday in the family pantheon at Havana’s Colon Cemetery. Prior to the funeral procession, a solemn ceremony took place at the Martí theater in Old Havana, where Cuban personalities and local residents, on behalf of the entire people, paid her their last respect.

The ceremony at the Martí theater and the subsequent funeral procession were broadcast live on Cuban radio and television, giving Cubans on the island and abroad the chance to participate, while strictly observing movement restriction rules in place on the island in times of Covid-19.

Daniel Martín said that the death of Rosita Fornés, one of the most versatile artists of all time, is a huge loss for Cuban and Latin American culture, but stressed that her legacy, just like her people’s love for her, will live forever.
