Havana, March 3 (RHC)-- ‘Patria y Amor’ (Homeland and Love) is the title of a new patriotic song, released just this week on social media, performed by young children with the Casa de la Décima in western Mayabeque province.
The author Lázaro Palenzuela Campos, director of the cultural institution, said the song is their firm response to those who have chosen culture to attack the Cuban Revolution.
Similar initiatives by Cuban artists and intellectuals have taken place over the past several weeks, notably the release by Cuban singer-songwriter Raúl Torres of his latest patriotic tune “Patria o Muerte por la Vida” (Homeland or Death for Life), and the actions undertaken by young and established artists on February 24th last in homage to National Hero José Martí and Cuban martyrs and heroes on the 126th anniversary of the resumption of the 1895 Cuban independence war, which Martí called the ‘Necessary War for Cuba’s Independence.’

Written by maestro Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada, director of the Folk Ballet Company in the eastern territory, the rumba tune conveys a message to Cuba friends and goodwill people around the world that despite the fierce propaganda campaign against Cuba in the mainstream and social media, aimed at distorting the country’s reality, the vast majority of Cuban artists and intellectuals support the Revolution and its cultural policy.
Participating artists include Rumbatá ensemble, Duo Voces, pianist Norberto Puente of Maravilla de Florida orchestra, among others.
The song’s title refers to the slogan ¡Patria o Muerte! (Homeland or Death), which has accompanied Cubans since the triumph of the Revolution, reflecting their determination to defend the country’s sovereignty and Independence against interference by a foreign power.
The song’s author Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada thanked the Provincial Culture Office and Cuba’s record and musical editions company EGREM, specifically Caonao Studios, for their support. He affirmed that Cubans are joyful people, who never stop dancing, laughing, creating, despite adversity.
