Geneva, March 5 (RHC)— Cuba denounced Thursday at the 46th regular session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva that its enemies are using culture as a weapon to try to subvert the country’s internal order.

Participating via videoconference in a forum on cultural rights, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla, said: ‘It is not by chance that the cultural, artistic and academic fields have been common targets of failed subversive campaigns and actions perpetrated against my country by Cuba enemies, who will continue to fail.’

The Cuban diplomat rejected the manipulation of human rights mechanisms by wealthy countries against developing nations.

Over the past several weeks, Cuba has been that target of a fierce campaign promoted and financed from outside the country, aimed at selling the false notion that Cuban artists and intellectuals oppose the Revolution, thus discrediting the nation internationally.

‘No civil, political or cultural right could be invoked to justify violations of sanitary regulations in place to stop the spread of Covid-19, or national law, especially when the violators are following orders of a foreign power,’ said Quintanilla. He stressed that guaranteeing the cultural rights of all Cubans has been a top priority of the Cuban Revolution as stipulated in the country’s Constitution.

‘Cuba will continue to promote and guarantee the cultural rights of its people, always with an anti-hegemonic vision, indispensable against the prevailing colonial, neoliberal doctrine,’ he said.
