Afro-Cuban jazz-rock fusion group Síntesis

Havana, April 6 (RHC)-- Afro-Cuban jazz-rock fusion group Síntesis celebrates 20 years since the release of their iconic album entitled ‘Habana a flor de piel’, with which they paid tribute to renowned Cuban musicians.

Recorded between Havana and Sao Paulo in 2001, the album features collaborations by artists like Chucho Valdés, Pablo Milanés and Tata Güines.

Precisely, the tune “Fifty Fifty”, written by leader of Síntesis Carlos Alfonso and his son, also a renowned musician X Alfonso, is a tribute to percussionist Tata Güines. It features also rappers Leo Pérez and José L. Borges.

X and Carlos Alfonso are also the co-authors of another two singles included in ‘Habana a flor de piel’. The first one entitled ‘Un poco más de fe’, is a tribute to Havana, its people and its history and the other one entitled “Dianas”, is a tribute to diversity and features also renowned Cuban musician Carlos Varela, playing the acoustic guitar.

Other singles compiled in the album include ‘Danzón’, ‘Y tus ojos’, ‘Conmigo en la clave’, ‘Iroko ma karere’, ‘Dilo como yo’ and ‘Añorado encuentro’.

Invited artists include trumpet player Julio Padrón, Mayito Rivera, Lucía Huergo, Eme Valdés and Diana Fuentes.

Released under Velas label, of Victor Martins, ‘Habana a flor de piel’ won a nomination to the Latin Grammy in 2002 in the category of Best Contemporary Tropical Album.
