Cuba renews its commitment to fight illicit trafficking with cultural assets

Havana, May 27 (RHC)-- At the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization (UNESCO), Cuba renewed its commitment to the global fight illicit trafficking with cultural property.

Yahima Esquivel, Cuba’s permanent representative before UNESCO, represent the country at the Ninth Session of the Subsidiary Committee of the Meeting of States Parties to the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, taking place May 27th and 28th at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Addressing the meeting, the Cuban diplomat set forth the Cuban experience and the regulations contained in the Cuban Constitution on the prevention and confrontation of the illicit trafficking with cultural assets and property. She stressed that protecting and preserving the country’s cultural heritage is a top priority of the Cuban cultural policy.
