Havana, June 10 (RHC)-- June 10th, 2021, marked the first anniversary of the death of Cuban singer, dancer and actress Rosa Fornés –La Rosa de Cuba (The Cuban Rose) or simply Rosita—as the Cuban people fondly call her.

Although her real name is Rosalía Palet Bonavía, and she had been born in New York, in 1923, the world knew her as Rosa Fornés since she began her career on September 12, 1938 when she appeared at the famous CMQ radio station’s Corte Suprema del Arte program.

An acclaimed, multi-award-winning artist in Cuba and around the world, Rosita reached her stardom in theater, cinema, radio, television and cabaret.

She died at the age of 97 in Miami, where she visited regularly to see her only daughter and several grandchildren. Acting on her last wish, her remains were brought back to Cuba and buried at Havana’s Colon Cemetery.

Fans and critics alike agree that with Rosita’s death, on June 10th 2020, the Spanish-speaking culture loses, perhaps, the last of its great Divas, the most versatile Cuban artist, the actress, singer and dancer who conquered the hearts not only of Cubans, but also of Mexicans, Spaniards and all audiences where she displayed he unequal art.
