KoSa Cuba

Havana, June 28 (RHC)-- A group of renowned Cuban percussionists are participating in KoSa Cuba interactive workshop, a Canadian initiative to enjoy and learn about the role of percussion instruments in Cuban music. The event is being livestreamed on Zoom due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cuban instrumentalist Rodney Barreto wrote on Facebook that the event features other established percussionists like Giraldo Piloto, Changuito, Oliver Valdés, Yaroldy Abreu, Horacio Hernández, Olavo Alen and also Canadian drummer Aldo Mazza.

KoSA Music is a Canadian organization that promotes knowledge and enjoyment of world music, based on the premise that music is a universal language. Created 20 years ago, it promotes exchanges between established and young performers and their audiences through festivals, recitals, workshops, drum and percussion camps and other musical events in Cuba, China, Italy and the United States.

Participants in the KoSa Cuba workshop are introduced to the history and development of the music and culture of Cuba and the different music styles that developed in Cuba over its history from the traditional to the popular music of today.

The KoSA Music directors – Aldo Mazza and his musician/business partner & wife- Dr. Jolán Kovács are official sponsors of Cuba’s “Fiesta Del Tambor” (The Rhythm & Dance Festival), an annual celebration in honor of legendary Cuban percussionist Guillermo Barreto. In the framework of the Festival, conga, bongo, timbales, bata, drumset and other instruments are studied as participants are immersed in Cuban rhythms. KoSA Music has also been bringing these instruments as prizes for the past 20 years to the Cuban people.
