Six internationally awarded films produced from 2011 to 2013 make up the German Film Festival that kicked off in Havana’s Charles Chaplin Theater on Wednesday, July 25th.

Oh boy, the first film by Jan Ole Gerster, was chosen to open the cultural fiesta, since the movie has become one of the most recently awarded films in Germany with six prizes in the country, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Script, plus other European awards and other nominations. Three films: Terrifying World, by Frauke Finsterwalder; Glass Park, by Bettina Blümner; and West, by Christian Schwochow will be premiered on the Caribbean island as part of the festival.

Meanwhile, Love Steaks, by Jakob Lass, and the Adopted Child, by Markus Imboden, complete the sample of movies to be screened. The first one was awarded with the New German Film Promotion Prize in the categories of direction, production, script and acting at the Munich Film Festival in  2013, while the latter, which deals with the issue of child exploitation, received an award by the Goethe Institute granted to children’s and teenager’s film at the Schlingel Festival.
