Residents of Santiago de Cuba pay tribute to novelist José Soler Puig on his 105th birthday anniversary

Santiago de Cuba, Oct. 10 (RHC)-- Cubans will pay tribute to writer José Soler Puig, an icon of Cuban literature and culture, on his 105th birthday anniversary, to be celebrated on November 10th. Residents of eastern Santiago de Cuba will honor the author of the novel Bertillón 166, with which he won the first edition of the Casa de Las Américas Prize in the category of Novel in 1960.

Other notable Cuban artists and intellectuals will be honored in the framework of activities on Cuban Culture Day –celebrated every year on October 20th.

Actions include the presentation of this year’s edition of the Community Culture Prize to Bayate naive painting and drawing project, based in the Santiago municipality of Julio A. Mella, also the National Theatre Prize 2021 to Dagoberto Gaínza and a special tribute to renowned intellectual Marino Wilson, who died recently due to complications associated with Covid-19.

The program includes tributes also to artist Alberto Lescay and his Monument Complex at the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square and to the traditional music ensemble Tambores de Enrique Bonne, formed by National Music prize laureate Enrique Bonne 60 years ago.
