Oliver Valdés

Cuban percussionist Oliver Valdés will release his first solo album on January 20th, during a concert at Teatro Nacional, sponsored by the National Center for Popular Music, in the framework of the 37th Jazz Plaza Festival.

Entitled ‘Nasobuco’, the album includes nine tracks, all of them composed over the months of necessary isolation imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Titles include Valdés’ jazz version of Silvio Rodriguez’ emblematic tune ‘El Necio’, also the title track ‘Nasobuco composed by Alejandro Delgado and ‘Maní’ by Julio Padrón.

Oliver Valdés has collaborated with several other Cuban and foreign artists. Together with Rodney Barreto he recorded an album dedicated to percussion.

Nasobuco shows the influence of other percussionists on the music of Valdés, as well as the consolidation of his own style.

Guest artists include other iconic figures of Cuban jazz from his generation, among them Tony Rodríguez, Rolando Luna, Eme Alfonso, Yaroldy Abreu, Jamil Schery, as well as from a previous generation Gastón Joya, Jorge Aragón, Adonis Panter, Ramón Tamayo and Adonis Panter Jr., and musicians with the band Interactivo, Roberto Carcassés, Julito Padrón, Juan Carlos Marín and Alejandro Delgado.

Recorded at Ojalá Studios in Havana and mastered in Los Angeles by Cuban musician Jimmy Branly, the first solo album by Cuban percussionist Oliver Valdés is accompanied by a music video for the tune El Necio and an EPK.

‘Nasobuco’, the first solo album by Oliver Valdés was co-produced by NuCubMusic Project, Oliver Valdés’ Project and Four Wives, with support from the National Center for Popular Art and RTV Comercial.
