Havana, May 25 (RHC)-- On the occasion of Africa Day, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba on Thursday highlighted the presence of the African legacy in the cultural life of our country.

In its profile on the social network Twitter, the organization celebrated the event and expressed that "Cuba without this continent would never be explained, its essence is inherent to our identity as a nation."

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba affirmed in a tweet that it has taken into account, since its foundation, the presence of this legacy in Cuban cultural life.

It stated that from the work of the Aponte Commission, the reflection of this legacy in the work of writers and artists and the development of spaces for its promotion, the organization contributes to the defense and preservation of the indelible traces of African culture in Cuba.

Africa Day commemorates the creation of the Organization of African Unity, precursor of the current African Union, on May 25, 1963 in the Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa, at a time marked by the rise of popular decolonization movements.

It was decreed to vindicate the socio-economic advances achieved by the nations of that continent, including their liberation from colonialism, as well as to point out the challenges that still lie ahead.
