Septeto Habanero
Havana, June 21 (RHC)-- Septeto Habanero performed a gala concert at Havana’s Salón Rosado de La Tropical, celebrating their 103rd anniversary.
Exponents of traditional Cuban music, particularly son, Septeto Habanero was formed in the early 20th century.
Founding members included, among others Félix Chapottin, Guillermo Castillo Bustamante and Guillermo Castillo García, Manolo Furé Zerquera and Germán Pérez Ibáñez, also Abelardo Barroso, Vicentico Valdés, Pío Leyva, Pachito Riset, Cheo Marquetti, Arsenio Rodríguez and Chocolate Armenteros.
Septeto Habanero was the first ensemble of its type to perform tunes composed by Ernesto Lecuona specifically for the band.
Septeto Habanero has won several nominations for the Latin Grammy in the category of Best Tropical Album. In 2010, they won another nomination in the category of Traditional Tropical Music for their double album ‘90 años, Orgullo de los soneros’, which includes new versions of iconic classics like ‘Papá Montero’, ‘A la Loma de Belén’ and ‘Aurora’.
