Book on the execution of the Rosenbergs 70 years ago in the US
Havana, June 21 (RHC)-- Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto, president of Casa de las Américas, other renowned intellectuals, members also of the network of intellectuals in defense of humanity and Ocean Sur publishing house organized the panel debate ‘facismo a debate’, held Tuesday in Havana.
Panelists focused on the new kind of ‘lynching’, targeting intellectuals and artists, and using the internet and social media.
‘La ejecución de los esposos Rosenberg en Estados Unidos. 70 años después’ (The execution of the Rosenbergs in the United States. 70 years later), was the latest title by Ocean Sur publishing house.
The book presentation has renewed the debate about the new manifestations of fascism in today’s world.
Cuban intellectual, PhD in sciences Jorge Hernández expressed that June 19th 1953 constitutes a symbol to mobilize progressive, antiimperialist, anti-fascist forces around the world.
The text narrates the execution of Ethel and Julie Rosenberg in the electric chair in the United States, victims of McCarthyism, during the Cold War era.
‘Their execution was a crime against humanity,’ the Cuban scholar said.
Researcher José Ernesto Novaes spoke about the classist nature of the US justice system and the reemergence of fascism in Europe, resulting from the social crisis of capitalism.
In that same line, Casa de las Américas president Abel Prieto expressed that the book sheds light on recent events. He referred specifically to the harassment and verbal and physical violence against Cuban artists in Europe.
‘Harassment and violence against Cuban artists in Europe constitute new manifestations of today’s fascism,’ Abel Prieto said.
The Cuban intellectual urged to condemn all forms and manifestations of fascism, but beyond that, he urged to analyze the role of social media in the formation and dissemination of violent groups.
Seventy years after the execution of the Rosenbergs in the US, the book ‘La ejecución de los esposos Rosenberg en Estados Unidos. 70 años después’ reveals the nature of fascism and warns against its reemergence in today’s world against progressive forces that oppose ruthless imperialism.
