Havana, Dec 22 (RHC) Cuba today celebrates the declaration of the bolero as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, a category awarded by UNESCO to contribute to promoting and safeguarding this genre.

According to the organizers, the event will take place in the Avellaneda room of the National Theater of Cuba, with the show Un Bolero para Tí.

The evening will be directed by maestro José Loyola, founder of the International Boleros de Oro Festival, one of the most solid platforms for promoting the genre.

Cuban performers who cultivate the genre, Sergio Farias, Mundito González, Anais Abreu, Emilia Morales, will participate in the gala, as well as Paulo FG, Eduardo Sosa and the Los Embajadores trio.

Lartiza Bacallao, Rachel Valladares, Annie Garcés and Anairis Blanco will join this celebration along with Leo Montesinos and Vania Borges.

Orlando Vistel, president of the Association of Musicians of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, highlighted that the celebration is part of an effort by that organization, together with the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Music to recognize authors, musicians, promoters and spaces that keep the tradition of Bolero practice alive.

The declaration of the genre with this category was approved by UNESCO on December 5, after the presentation of a binational candidacy between Cuba and Mexico. From that moment on, the celebrations began in both countries, transcending the borders and traditional spaces of promotion.
