One of the most important figures of the Cuban music scene, renowned singer, Adriano Rodríguez, was buried in his hometown of Guanabacoa in Havana. Adriano, as he was called by friends, fans and audiences, died at the age of 91.

The performer, who was a National Music Award Winner for 2013, comes from a family of musicians and in 1946 was part of a cast that renowned Cuban musician and orchestra director, Gonzalo Roig, presented at Havana’s Town Council, with Rita Montaner as a soloist. Adriano was a founding member of the National Polyphonic Choir, later known as Cuban National Choir and of the band Cuban Troubadours.

The deceased performer showed his talent and skills in cabaret shows and musicals and sang and worked as an actor in movies, such as the Mexican-Cuban co-production Yambaó, starring Ninón Sevilla, as well as others, including Árbol de fiebre (Fever Tree), Cuba canta (Cuban Sings), and Las doce sillas (the Twelve Chairs), where he didn’t sing, but had a brief supporting role. After retiring, he started training singers and eventually sang with some Cuban music celebrities, such as Barbarito Diez, Laíto Sureda, Pablo Milanés and Edesio Alejandro.
