The 6th Culture Ministers Meeting of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples Treaty (ALBA-TCP) will be held in Havana on September 17.

On the gathering’s agenda: re-boosting and revising the Cultural Alba Project in the 12 countries that make up the initiative. The meeting’s sixth edition will reportedly reaffirm the principles of solidarity, decolonization and the complementary and intercultural nature promoted by the Bolivarian Alliance. During their stay in Havana, ALBA Culture Ministers will deal with the crucial role that culture has played in the reaffirmation of Latin American and Caribbean identities.

At the same time they will champion integration and the unity of peoples in pursuit of economic growth, the eradication of poverty, the reduction of social inequalities and the achievement of sustainable development, based on respect for diversity.

The ALBA Project adopted at the Sixth Summit held in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2008, is aimed at promoting the processes of unity through culture. Previously, in the First Meeting of Culture Ministers, held in Venezuela in 2007, Cuba was chosen to internationally coordinate actions undertaken within the framework of ALBA.

The forum will be held prior to the Third Culture Ministers Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which will take place few hours later at Havana’s Conference Center.
