Havana, June 13 (RHC) A one-of-its-kind exhibit of the best classic cars and motorbikes still running on Cuban roads despite their old age along some of the most modern makes will take place July 16 and 17 at Havana’s Expocuba exhibit ground.

The event will grant popularity prizes after visitors cast a vote on the most popular bike or car in different modalities, including classic and modern, said during a press conference Wednesday Willy Hierro, editor of the Excelencias del Motor magazine, which called the event.

Participants include car and bike clubs, business people and importers in the automobile sector, who will bring their vehicles to the exhibit, which marks the 12th anniversary of the Excelencias del Motor publications (www.excelenciasdelmotor.com), the 20th of its mother agency the Excelencias Group (www.excelencias.com) and the 500th birthday of Havana city.

The program includes videos, lectures and presentations on the automobile world and the launch of the most recent edition of the ExM magazine, Hierro explained and added that the car exhibit will spare the morning of Sunday, July 17th for a competition of drivers who will show their skills in actions like car parking and bike maneuvers.

Cuba counts on a large number of old cars imported from the United States before 1959. Some of the most popular American makes, like Buick, Chevrolet, Ford, Pontiac and many others are still on Cuban roads operating as cabs and tourist taxis, which have become an attraction for vacationers visiting the island, particularly Americans. On the other hand, the city’s environment is marked by the mixture of all these relics, still running thanks to the effort and creative nature of their owners, with some of the most modern cars running around the world.

A heritage of Cuba, all these old vehicles really make an amazing scene before your eyes as they move around the city every single day.
