Havana Judo Grand Prix a Success: Cuban media

Jun 9, -- The Cuban press today highlighted the second place achieved by the judokas of the island in the Grand Prix of Havana, that took place over the weekend in the Cuban capital.

Cuba was runner up out of 39 nations, and achieved eight medals in the competition, two gold, two silver and four bronze.

Gold medals went to Celia Maria Laborde (48 kilograms), and Yanet Bermoy (52 kg), Silver to Dayaris Mestre (48) and Magdiel Estrada (73), bronze to Aliuska Ojeda (57), Maricet Espinosa (63 ) Yalennis Castillo (78) and Oscar Brayson (over 100).

The newspaper Trabajadores also referred to the outstanding performance of Cuban judokas in a commentary.

For three days, Havana was the capital of judo, thanks to the first Grand Prix held here, which ended with Cuba in second place (behind Georgia) and the same for our women's team (behind France), said the weekly.

Although it lamented the non participation of world judo champions from South Korea and Japan.
