Federation of Cuban Women praises athletes heading for Olympics in Tokyo

Havana, June 26 (RHC)-- The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), headed by its secretary general and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, Teresa Amarelle Boué, recognized on Friday a group of athletes qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The exchange with female weightlifting, table tennis and judo athletes was also attended by female coaches and commissioners, in the presence of Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of Inder, and Roberto León Richards, head of the Cuban Olympic Committee.

Members of the FMC secretariat expressed that these Games will be a gift for the Cuban people in difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing impact of the U.S. blockade.

Amarelle Boué presented the athletes with a WBF flag to accompany them during the summer games. She stressed that it carries the message and the applause of Cuban women and their eternal president Vilma Espín Guillois.

"When we talk about Olympic medals, and we see the number of medals won by our women, one feels proud to live in Cuba, which shows the significance of the Revolution for the development of Cuban women," said the leader at the organization's headquarters.

She added that the more than four million women members of the FMC across the island, along with all the Cuban people, will closely follow every performance of our athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic events, where they will carry the commitment of ¡Hagámoslo! For Cuba.

"We all trust in your loyalty and fidelity, that you will know how to put the name of the homeland at the top," emphasized the secretary general of the FMC.

On behalf of the board of directors of Inder and the Cuban Olympic Committee, Oscar Nuevo, director of the technical-methodological department, thanked the athletes for the recognition and said that so far they have 66 qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games, 30 of them women.
