Delegation to the Paralympics back to the Homeland

Tokyo, September 6 (RHC)-- The second group of the Cuban delegation that competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games returns to Havana on Monday afternoon.

Cuba won four gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the competition, which ended on Sunday in the Japanese capital, to rank 35th in the medal table, led for the fifth consecutive time by China.

Cuba's great figure in the Paralympic event was the sprinter Omara Durand, winner in the 100, 400 and 200 meters in the T12 category (profound visual impairment), the latter with a world record of 23.02 seconds.

With the three gold medals she won in Tokyo, Durand reached 8 in the history of the Games.

The exceptional Cuban paratriathlete remains for the moment in Tokyo with a small group of the Cuban delegation, which will return to the island on the 12th.

During the closing ceremony, it was announced that Cuban Omara Durand was elected among the six athletes member of the Paralympic Athletes Committee, a recognition that emerged from a vote among 22 candidates.

The other title of the Cuban delegation was won by long jumper Robiel Yankiel Sol, the youngest of the Cuban representation at only 18 years of age, the silver medal went to long jumper Leinier Savón and the bronze medal went to experienced discus athlete Leonardo Díaz.

Of the 16 paratriathletes who competed in Tokyo, 12 of them placed among the top eight.
