Havana, October 25 (RHC)-- Managers, clubs and players of the Mexican Baseball League mourn Monday the death of former Cuban pitcher Andres Ayon, at the age of 85, victim of a heart attack.

Messages on social networks evoke the trajectory of Ayón, in the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame for his exploits during 14 seasons with the Puebla, Jalisco, Sabinas, Saltillo, Córdoba and Nuevo Laredo pennants.

Upon learning of the news of his death this Sunday, the Mexican League management sent its condolences to the family of the pitcher, who had a perfect game and two no-hitters during his time in the national ball game.

The Saraperos de Saltillo club described the news as a sensitive loss, which on Twitter evoked Ayón's years of success with the club and his leadership of 1.22 ERA in 1971 and wins with 22 games in 1972.

For their part, the Pericos de Puebla expressed in their words of solidarity Ayón's 169 successes in the Mexican championship, while highlighting the no-hit game he played in for the team in the 1966 season.

Likewise, the official account of the Hall of Fame expressed 'the sorrow of the Ayón family' for the death of the immortal pitcher, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.

Born in Havana on October 22, 1936, Andres Ayon won 234 victories and 148 defeats in his two-decade career in tournaments in Cuba, Mexico and the United States.

His death closes the list of 16 Cuban players recognized in the so-called 'Temple of the Immortals', including Martin Dihigo, Basilio 'Brujo' Rosell, Lazaro Salazar, Roberto Ortiz, Agustin Verde and Orestes Miñoso, among others.
