Cuban sports movement mourns death of coach
Havana, November 4 (RHC)-- The president of the Cuban Sports Institute, Osvaldo Vento, lamented the death of baseball coach José Benito Camacho, a victim of COVID-19.
On the social network Twitter, the sports official wrote that the news of Camacho's death moves the entire baseball family and Cuban sports in general.
"The death of the former coach of Team Cuba leaves our baseball without the physical presence of one of its best prepared men."
In this regard, Vento remarked that Camacho's work during so many years devoted to baseball will contribute a lot to the road that remains to be traveled.
Camacho was admitted last weekend to the Salvador Allende Hospital in the capital, known as the Covadonga, affected by the complications derived from COVID-19.
As a physical trainer, he made his debut in 1998 with the senior national baseball team, where he remained until 2010.
Under his technical leadership, Cuba won the title at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, as well as three Pan American Games crowns (1999, 2003 and 2007) and two Central American and Caribbean Games (1998 and 2006).
Another good result for the Antillean nation with the presence of Camacho was achieved in the first World Classic, in which the Tricolor team finished in second place.
