Uruguay and Cuba sign collaboration in soccer

Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- The Nuevo Fútbol de Uruguay (NFU) and the Cuban Football Association (AFC) signed on Monday in Montevideo and Havana a collaboration protocol that will open development prospects for young players from the island.

NFU president, Marcelo Constante, and his AFC counterpart, Oliet Rodríguez, signed it in a virtual meeting to materialize a common effort of almost two years ago, interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the document, both did so "inspired by the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation existing between the peoples of the two nations".

Among its main aspects, it stands out to make recommendations and advice on Cuban soccer, contracts and negotiation of players and exchange of professionals of the discipline.

It also envisages the coordination and support for the presence of Cuba's U20 team in Uruguay in 2022, training of youth talents so that they can join Uruguayan teams and training of coaches on the island.

Constante emphasized to Prensa Latina agency the interest in following the performance of Cuban players in order to promote them, of whom he appreciated in general very good genetic capacities due to the physical conditions of how they run.

Accompanied by the intermediary agent, Reubens Da Conha, he said that he will travel to Cuba between January and February to start defining the bilateral collaboration and projected to organize friendly matches in the short or medium term.

Rodriguez was joined in Havana by the director of ProCuba, Roberto Verrier, and authorities of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder).
