Gu Ailing, also known as Eileen Gu and nicknamed the "queen of the snow", was crowned in freestyle skiing, after winning in the last jump against France's Tess Ledeux.

The young woman will be looking to repeat her triumph next week when she will compete in the slopestyle and halfpipe categories.

China won two gold medals earlier in short track speed skating, with the mixed quartet in the 2,000-meter race and then with Ren Ziwei in the men's 1,000-meter individual event.

The other gold medals of the day went to Austria's Matthias Mayer (alpine skiing); his compatriot Benjamin Karl and Czech Ester Ledecka, men's and women's parallel giant slalom, respectively; and France's Quentin Fillon Maillet (biathlon).

The champion in mixed doubles curling between Italy and Norway is still to be decided, as well as the men's figure skating, where American Nathan Chen is ahead of Japan's Yuma Kagiyama, after the short program.

Chen is one of the favorites and scored 113.97 points, five more than Yuma (108.12) and eight more than Japan's Shoma Uno (105.9).

Mexican Donovan Carrillo participated in this sport on Tuesday and qualified with 79.69 points to participate in the long program to be held on Thursday.
