Cubans stand out at the Pan American Masters Swimming Championship

Havana, July 26 (JIT) - Cuba was the protagonist this Monday in the fifth day, dedicated to relays, of the VIII Pan American Masters Swimming Championship Medellin 2022.

The Caymans of the Caribbean joined to participate in four of the six scheduled for this day, when they conquered three medals.

Although all the competitors who are included among the top 10 receive medals, the 4 x 50 combined female relay was the best placed (6th) by the Cubans thanks to a time of 3 minutes and 2 seconds.

Tania Coffigny, Leydis Angárica, Rosalba Cabrera and Nitza Calderín were part of this squad.

They were also eighth with 2.39.68 in the same distance, gender, but in the free modality.

They were followed by Angárica, Cabrera, Coffigny, and Carlos Pérez in the mixed 4 x 50 free, with the 10th place and a time of 2.09.62.

In the 4 x 50 mixed combined, they placed 12th among 18 teams with a time of 2.26.59. Coffigny, Eduardo Araujo, Perez, and Cabrera made the distance.

All competed in the 60-99 years category.

"The tournament is well organized, despite the number of events it has. What hits us is the height above sea level of this city," said Coffigny, vice president of the Cuban Swimming Federation for the attention to the masters.

As a fun fact, she and Nitza also played support with the Venezuelan mixed water polo team.

"The Venezuelans are our brothers. Nitza even scored goals," she said.
