Ecuadorian cyclist Carapaz will try to climb in Vuelta a Polonia

Havana, August 1 (RHC)-- Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers) will try to climb positions in the Tour of Poland today, when the third stage is held between the cities of Krasnik and Przemysl at a distance of 237.9 kilometers.

Carapaz, second this season in the Giro d'Italia, is 32nd overall, 12 seconds behind the leader, Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team).

The Scandinavian took the lead on Sunday by benefiting from the bonuses in the second stage, raced between the cities of Chelm and Zamosc, over 205.6 kilometers.

The Norwegian now leads the general classification with a time of 10:05.12 hours and is two seconds ahead of Dutchman Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) and Belgian Gerber Thijssen (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), who won the second segment.

Sunday's course, without major orographic alterations, had breakaways, but the teams did not let them reach the finish line to give a new chance of victory to their sprinters, who took good advantage of the intermediate bonuses. Thijssen took the partial victory, with a time of 4:47.23 hours, followed by German Pascal Ackermann (UAE Emirates) and Italian Jonathan Milan (Bahrain-Victorious), both with the same time as the Belgian.

The race started on Saturday with Kooij's partial victory, over a 218.8-kilometer route between the cities of Kielce and Lublin.
