Havana, August 13 (RHC)-- Osasuna surprised Sevilla 2-1 at the start of the 2022-2023 Spanish Soccer League, with a decisive goal by Aimar Oroz.
The first goal of the championship was scored with a header by Argentine Ezequiel "Chimy" Ávila in the ninth minute, although the visitors equalized later, in the 11th minute, when Rafa Mir took advantage of an assist by another Argentine Alejandro "Papu" Gómez.
A penalty converted by Oroz in the 74th minute gave the Navarrese side the win against the fourth-placed team in last season's La Liga.
"We had the feeling that we controlled the match in the second half, but at that moment came a decisive action, a penalty. We have to accept it, with displeasure, but accept it," said Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui, who underlined his disagreement with the penalty against his team.
The first Spanish matchday continues today with three matches, among them FC Barcelona hosts Rayo Vallecano, in the challenging debut of Poland's Robert Lewandowski.
On Sunday, the reigning champions Real Madrid will visit newly promoted Almeria.
