Mexico City, September 5 (RHC)-- Officials from Cuba's diplomatic mission and other institutions in Mexico City on Monday offered a warm farewell to the runner-up baseball team of the 5th World Cup in Sonora, where they performed an extraordinary feat.
Alexander Urquiola's boys maintained a stellar performance from the first day of the WBSC Baseball 2022 U-15 Super Round, winning their first game against the Mexican host and remaining undefeated at the top of the podium until losing in the semifinal to the United States.
The fight for the gold was neck and neck against the strong pitching and battery of the northern opponents, who even had a 3-0 lead until the tie in the fifth inning, when the Americans scored the final run.
In the last inning hopes were reborn and it seemed that the Cubans would take the gold by filling the bases with only one out, but unfortunately they were unable to step on the plate, and tears flowed throughout the ninth.
All the heroism and emotion of the youngsters was recalled by the Cuban ambassador in Mexico, Marcos Rodriguez, who welcomed them as if they were at home, a foretaste of what 11 million compatriots will do when they return to their homeland.
