Havana Skate Marathon ends with resounding success

Havana, December 5 (RHC)-- The Second Havana Skate Marathon ended on Sunday with the participation of a pair of world champion contestants, after the 42-kilometer (km) race on the seafront of the Cuban capital.

Jorge Bolaños, from Ecuador, won the marathon event, followed by fellow world gold medalist Alex Cujavante, from Colombia.

Known as "Jota" Bolaños, the South American long-distance runner defined the circuit as quite strong, with a lot of wind, although he felt perfect, with the support of his excellent team.

Cuba's Dayan Milán, who came in third, highlighted the pride of competing alongside world champions, although in the tough race he ran alone in the second half, behind Bolaños and Cujavante.

Francesco Zangarini, sports director of World Skate, reiterated that the governing organization of this sport plans to hold a world tour with a final stop every December in the capital of Cuba.

If not next year, it will be in 2024, but in 2023 we will surely start an annual event in Havana, with a progressive increase of modalities, it could be a World Marathon Championship and then hold one of other specialties.

After the first edition of the Havana Skate Marathon in 2019 and despite the pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contest had more than 200 skaters this weekend in speed, jumps and slalom (obstacle course) in categories from nine years old to over 60.
