Havana, January 23 (RHC).- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated the champion of the 1st Elite Baseball League on the island, the Agricultores team, and had words of praise for its helmsman, Carlos Martí.

 "On the way to Argentina we learned about the victory of Agricultores, congratulations, champions! And a hug for Carlos Martí, winning manager, loved and respected," the president wrote on his official Twitter account.

With a historic comeback -they were losing the playoffs for the title 1-3-, Agricultores won three consecutive games to take the tournament crown, against a tough Portuarios team.

The seventh and final game was decided 7-6 in the last inning and unleashed great euphoria among the fans who packed the Mártires de Barbados stadium in Bayamo, and the Agricultores players, from the eastern provinces of Granma and Las Tunas.

The victory gave the team the ticket to represent Cuba in the upcoming Caribbean Series, scheduled for early February in Caracas, Venezuela.
