Havana, January 24 (RHC)-- Greek tennis player Stefano Tsitsipas advanced today to the semifinals of the Australian Open, first Grand Slam of the season, by defeating Czech Jiri Lehecka 3-0, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
Tsitsipas, ranked fourth in the world, needed just over two hours and 15 minutes to defeat an affordable opponent who faced serious problems with the serve of the Hellenic, who won nine points per game thanks to this section.
It was a duel where the double faults harmed the Czech at important moments, and this limited him when it came to contain his rival, who had already defeated him in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in February last year.
Now Tsitsipas will play in the penultimate round against Russian Karen Khachanov, who reached the semifinals after the abandonment of American Sebastian Korda, when he defeated him two sets to zero (7-6, 6-3) and the third set was 3-0 in his favor.
