Havana, May 8 (RHC) - Two-time Olympic champion Julio Cesar La Cruz, Yosbany Veitía and Alejandro Claro were victorious on Monday and increased to 21 the number of consecutive wins for Cuba at the World Boxing Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

La Cruz (92 kg) won 5-0 against Australian Kirra Rustro, in a fight he dominated from the beginning to the end, fighting mainly on the backhand, to score his second success in the fight, in which he is looking for his sixth crown.

If he wins it, he will equal the retired Felix Savon, as the maximum winner of world crowns, with 6.

In the 54, world champion Yosvany Veitía (54) also made his debut with a smile, defeating Kenyan Shaffi Hassan 5-0, while in the 48, newcomer Alejandro Claro dominated Yassine Issufo, from Mozambique, 5-0, in a close fight.

On Sunday, Rolando Acebal's students had achieved four victories, including the one won by defending champion Yoenlis Feliciano Hernandez (75 kg).

In his first outing, the Belgrade 2021 champion lived up to expectations and easily defeated Jordan's Mohammad Almhart (5-0).

Also victorious on Sunday were Erislan Romero (51 kg), in his debut, Saidel Horta (57 kg), who got his third win, and Fernando Arzola (+92 kg), his second.

Erislandy Alvarez (60 kg) and Nelson Williams (86 kg) have yet to step into the ring.
