Havana, May 22 (RHC) - Long jumper Maykel Massó and triple jumper Leyanis Pérez gave the highest marks in the last date of the Cuba Cup of Athletics - national championship - held at the Pan American Stadium in Havana.

In the long jump, Maykel Massó, Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo-2020, ratified his class with a jump of 8.36 meters, very close to his personal record of 8.39 achieved in 2021.

Another jump of 8.12 meters and one of 7.94 completed his performance in the event, in which he was the only one capable of jumping over eight meters.  Maikel Vidal (7.94) and 18-year-old Alejandro Parada (7.91) completed the podium.

In the women's triple jump, Leyanis, fourth at the Eugene-2022 World Championships, and Liadagmis Povea, fifth at the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games, staged a great duel.

This time Leyanis won with a jump of 14.80 meters, a personal best and with which she moved to the top of the world ranking for the year, while Povea reached 14.73 meters, which places her second in the beginning of the outdoor season, only surpassed by Leyanis.

At the last world championships, Leyanis finished fourth with 14.70 meters, a record that remained her longest jump until Sunday.

According to the official results of the statistician of the Cuban Athletics Federation, Alfredo Sanchez, Luis Enrique Zayas dominated in the high jump with 2.28 meters, his best jump so far this year and only two centimeters away from the best jump in his record.

Zayas had a discreet winter tour in terms of marks, but now he is off to a very good start outdoors. On Sunday he attempted 2.31, looking to set a new personal best.

In other results of the closing of the Cuba Cup, the record for the competition imposed by the women's 4x100 meters was also outstanding. Now Keily Linet Perez, Enis Perez, Yarima Garcia and Yunisleidys Garcia stopped the clocks in 44.38 seconds, to erase from the books the 44.44 seconds in force since 2011.

In the 400 hurdles, Yoao Illas led with a personal record of 50.03 seconds and another with a personal best was long-distance runner Francisco Ronnei Estévez, with 29:74.78 minutes in the 10 thousand meters.

On Saturday, the mixed 4x400 relay set a national record, with 3.16.91 minutes.

Leandro Zamora, Roxana Gómez, Yoandy Lescay and Lisneydi Veitia integrated the Cuban quartet.

Cuban athletics is preparing for the Central Caribbean Games in San Salvador next month, the World Championship in Budapest at the end of August and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile in October.
