Havana, July 24 (RHC) -- Cuba lost 0-3 to Canada and finished in sixth place in the fifth edition of the women's U23 Pan American Volleyball Cup, held at the Sonora Arena in Hermosillo, Mexico, where the undefeated Dominican Republic and Mexico will fight for the title.

The website www.norceca.net reports that this Sunday the Cubans lost with a score of 18-25, 9-25 and 20-25, in an hour and 10 minutes of play, in which the Canadians had their main collective weapons of victory in the attack, blocking and service, and individual in Kaylee Plouffe.

Kaylee was the top scorer of the match with 13 points, 11 in attack and two in blocking, while Claudia Tarin was the best scorer for the Antilles, but with only seven points (7-0-0).

Canada was superior in attack, 33 for 22 points, blocking (11-3) and service (9-0), and equaled in own errors (22-22).

This was the second loss for the Cubans against the northern team, who beat them 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-19 and 26-24) in the group phase for the A, in which they finished third with one win and two losses, ahead of the Caribbean, fourth and last (0-3).

Today the seventh place was defined with the success of Honduras against Costa Rica, with a 3-2 score (13-25, 25-18, 25-23, 19-25 and 15-13).

Tonight's action continues with the bronze medal match between Argentina and Peru, and the gold medal match between the defending champions Dominican Republic and Mexico, in a duel of undefeated teams.

The Cup grants two direct berths to the 2025 Pan American Junior Games to the first two places among the teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca), as the South American Volleyball Confederation will establish its own classification system.

The quisqueyanas have won in all editions since the creation of the event in 2012, while the squads of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Peru have one silver medal each, and Cuba accumulates three bronze metals and Argentina one.

Dominican Republic climbed to the top of the podium in 2018, escorted by Peru and Cuba, respectively.
