Havana, September 4 (ACN) -- The Cuban women's volleyball team lost this Sunday 1-3 to host Canada in the discussion of the bronze medal of the North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) in Quebec, where the Dominican Republic was proclaimed champion.

With stage at the PEPS' Amphithéatre Desjardins-Université Laval, the locals overcame the disciples of coach Leivis García in the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-17, the Cubans reacted in the third, 25-17, but could not keep the winning pace with a setback of 16-25, after an hour and 32 minutes of action on the court.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the northern bronze medalists were better in attack, 53 points to 47, blocking (16-8) and own errors (17-18), but were behind in service (5-7).

Individually, Kiera Van Ryk was the top scorer of the match with 24 points, 20 in attack, three in blocking and one in service, followed by West Indian opposite Greisy Finé (16/14-1-1).

Cuba's auxiliary attacker Diaris Perez (12/8-3-1) was also outstanding, while Canada's Blanco (14/6-6-2) also stood out, as well as two of her teammates, both with double digits.

The largest of the Antilles finished with two victories, one in the group phase against Costa Rica -in the B bracket- and another in the quarterfinals against Puerto Rico, and four setbacks, two in the B bracket (United States and Dominican Republic), another in the semifinal (United States) and the one in the bronze match (Canada).

The Dominican Republic won the crown with a 3-2 (12-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19 and 15-13) victory over the previously undefeated United States in the final.

In the B section, the U.S. leaders of that phase defeated the Quintana Roo women 3-0 (25-22, 25-22 and 25-16).

In sixth place finished Puerto Rico, a team that defeated Costa Rica 3-0 (25-13, 25-7 and 25-9) on Sunday, while Mexico finished fifth on Saturday with a 3-0 victory (25-22, 32-30 and 25-22) over Puerto Rico.

www.norceca.net highlights that most of the seven teams that participated in the Canadian tournament did so with their main players in search of points for the ranking of the geographical area, a list for which Cuba has already secured its ticket to the Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023.

It also coincided that the United States and Canada announced that they will not participate in the Chilean multi-sport event.
