Havana, September 23 (RHC) - Cuban Greco-Roman gladiator Luis Orta advanced to the 67 kg Grand Final at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, by winning his semifinal bout on Saturday and securing the silver medal.

Orta, Olympic champion of Tokyo-2020, defeated Amantur Ismailov, from Kyrgyzstan, in search of his pass to fight for the gold in a categorical way (9-1 technical superiority), to secure the fourth Olympic quota for the island's wrestlers for Paris-2024.

His rival for the crown will be last year's world bronze medalist Hasrat Jaffarov (Azerbaijan), victor in the other semifinal over Armenia's Galstyan 5-3.

On his way to the final, the Havana native defeated Souleymen Nasr, from Tunisia (8-0 ST), with the same score he defeated the Romanian Mihai Radu and in the quarterfinals he defeated Mate Nemes (Serbia) in a hard-fought 3-2 match.

Also this Saturday, another Cuban, Daniel Grégorich (87 kg), fell in his debut against Gevorg Tadevosyan, from Armenia, 5-1 and could not advance to the fight for the medals.

Likewise, today Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg) will be looking for the gold in his category against Artur Aleksanyan, from Armenia.

Cuba has three medals in the Belgrade World Championship: silver medals for Rosillo and Orta, which could turn into gold, and bronze for Oscar Pino (130), all in the Greco style. It also has four tickets for Paris-2024, the three mentioned above, and the other one by Milaimis Marín (women's 76 kg).
