Havana, November 4 (JIT) -- José Ramón Pelier put a golden brooch to Cuba's performance in canoeing at the XIX Pan American Games with the scepter in the 1,000-meter C1 modality, minutes before the end of the actions in the Laguna Grande of San Pedro de la Paz.

The best canoeist of the Island not only dominated the regatta, but did it with a considerable advantage over his rivals. The Guantanamo native covered the distance in 3:48.69 minutes, more than five seconds ahead of Brazil's Isaquias Queiroz (3:54.05), owner of four Olympic medals, including the gold medal in this specialty in Tokyo 2020.

The bronze medal this time went to Canada's Connor Fitzpatrick (3:55.13), who arrived in Chile backed by the world titles in the two most recent championships, but in the C2 500 meters, mixed modality.

The B final of the 1,000-meter single canoe was dominated by Cuba's Elvis Bárbaro Reyes (4:14.04), with an overwhelming difference of more than 15 seconds over three other participants.

Close to the podium finished Daylén Rodríguez and Yurieni Guerra (1:43.27), who fought tooth by tooth with the Canadians Madeleine Schmitd and Courtney Stott (1:42.84) for the bronze medal. The Cubans finally occupied the fourth place among the eight boats aspiring to the crown won by the Mexicans Karina Guadalupe Alanis and Beatriz de Lourdes Briones (1:41.98).

The rest of the Cuban incursions in the closing day were without prizes. The stellar Yarisleidis Cirilo, already with a scepter in her luggage, could not extend her harvest as a partner of Yisnoly Lopez, finishing fifth in the C2 at 500 meters.

Two places further back, the men's K4 500-meter crew finished in the regatta that brought the imaginary curtain down on the lagoon with the triumph of the Argentine boat.
