Leinier Dominguez tied Friday with Israeli, Maxim Rodshtein, and the St. Petersburg team won in the sixth round of the European Cup chess clubs, held in Bilbao, Spain.

Dominguez (2 thousand 7 hundred and 55 Elo points) played with white pieces, and negotiated the split of point with Rodshtein after 103 moves of a Caro-Kann defense.

The Cuban player defended the second board of the Russian club, and beat Beer Sheva of Israel 4.5-1.5.

For the Russian squad, there were wins for Sergei Movsesian, Maxim Matlakov and Ildar Khairullin, while Peter Svidler and Zahar Efimenko made draws.

Turning to Basketball

The Cuban women's basketball team, won in extra time 69-66 against their Canadian counterparts, in preparation for the World Basketball Championship, a clash which took place at the Lobete de Logrono municipal sport center, Spain.

The Cubans, American champions in 2013, dominated the first quarter 19-7, but fell in the remaining three, with scorecards of 9-15,19-20 and 11-16. At the end of the 40 minutes of play there was a tie at 68 points.

In the five additional minutes the Cubans dominated 11-8 to get a final score of 69-68.

The best scorers for Cuba were Yamara Amargo, with 18 points, followed by Leidis Oquendo y Oyanaisis Gelis, with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cuban coach Alberto Zabala used in this challenge the 12 players who will represent the country in the World Cup in Turkey, which starts on Saturday 27th in the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul. 

This Saturday will continue the friendly competition with Canada-Spain, and Cuba will play on Sunday against the Spanish.

London's Wembley Stadium will host the final and semi-finals of the 2020 European football championship, which will exceptionally be held in 13 different countries, U E F A boss Michel Platini announced Friday. The quarter-finals will meanwhile be hosted by Munich (Germany), Baku (Azerbaijan), Saint Petersburg (Russia) and Rome (Italy), the president of European football's governing body revealed at a ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.

For the 60th anniversary of the European Championship, first held in 1960, U E F A decided to organize the tournament across the whole continent.

On top of one quarter-final, Rome, Munich, Baku and St Petersburg will each host three group stage games. Only hosts that had stadiums with a capacity of 60 thousand were considered.

Many other European countries will host games and sports events. Stadiums like Budapest and Baku for the Euro 2020 are still waiting to be built.

For this jubilee tournament, U E F A said it wanted a "Euro for Europe." In the past, a single country or at the most two, like Austria and Switzerland in 2008, or Poland and Ukraine in 2012,,,,,,hosted the finals.

The experiment, which was Platini's brainchild, will be a one-off event however, with the 2024 tournament to be hosted again by a single country.
