Cuban Judo trains in Europe with an eye on Paris-2024

Paris, January 26 (PL) - The main Cuban judo players are training in France and the men in Hungary to find the best form for the Paris-2024 Olympic Games, said the president of the Cuban judo federation, Rafael Manso.

Speaking to Prensa Latina in Paris, the executive said that the European preparation and tour involves athletes located in the Olympic qualification zone, with the first test in a few days: the Grand Slam in Paris, scheduled for February 2 to 4 with a record number of competitors, 670 from 111 countries.

The women's squad includes four-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion Idalys Ortiz (+78 kg), who will not participate in next weekend's Grand Slam, the experienced Maylín del Toro (63) and the promising Idelannis Gómez (70, 21 years old) and Lianet Cardona (78, 19 years old).

Meanwhile, the men's team brings together the +100 kilograms world champion in Tashkent-2022, Andy Granda, Baku-2018 world runner-up Ivan Silva (90), Magdiel Estrada (73), Orlando Polanco (66) and 20-year-old judoka Jonathan Charon (60).
