Paris, May 22 (PL) -- The red carpet of the Cannes Festival received the flame that symbolizes the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to link the great cinema event with the world sports festival.

As the organizers of the famous festival on the French Riviera had announced, the flame stopped on its 12,000-kilometre journey through Gallic soil, arriving on May 8 from Greece, to illuminate with its message of peace and brotherhood. the boulevard of La Croisette.

The first bearer of the torch in Cannes was the Beijing-2008 Paralympic champion in long jump Arnaud Assoumani, who was followed by the also successful parathletes Alexis Hanquinquant, Marie Patouillet and Nélia Barbosa, in the presence of the president of the Paris-2024 Organizing Committee , Tony Estanguet.

100 days before the start of the Paralympic Games, the center of the ceremony was sport for people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities.

In brief words, Estanguet thanked the world of cinema for welcoming the flame and for it climbing the steps of the festival.

To complement the tribute to the sports festival that will begin on July 26 with the Olympic Games, the Cannes Film Festival in its 77th edition will premiere in the evening the unpublished documentary “Olympiques! La France des Jeux”, directed by Mickaël Gamrasni.

This Wednesday the torch will continue its journey through France in the southwestern department of Dordogne.
